Backstage with Eliel & The Cuban Quintet

Post Image

Backstage at Nova Concerts during Eliel Lazo’s performance featuring Calixto Oviedo, the atmosphere was electric with anticipation. As the promoter of Nova Concerts, I felt the excitement emaning from every corner. We had a full house, sold out weeks before the actual date, and the energy was palpable. Eliel Lazo, renowned for his incredible percussion and soulful singing, was the highlight of the evening. Alongside him was Yasser Pino on bass, Calixto Oviedo on drums, Mark Schemnitz on keys, and Zac W. Celinder on guitar. Each musician brought their unique flavor to the quintet.

I watched the band get busy in a final pre-show meeting, their chemistry was evident in their relaxed smiles and easy talk. Eliel is a charismatic leader, he gave a few last-minute pointers. Calixto, a legend in his own right, exchanged a laugh or two with Yasser. While Mark and Zac were ready from the start. They both have worked with Eliel on so many occasions before that they felt totally at home. I felt a surge of pride as the band walked towards the stage. The audience’s expectation turned into a roar of applause, as I already knew we were about to witness something extraordinary.
